Four Deficiencies
Just as there are four foundations in Chinese Medicine, there are four primary immune deficiencies associated with each. The blood is the cornerstone of the four foundations as the state of the blood determines how well one will respond to detrimental external influences. The primary symptom of blood deficiency is anemia which we regard as “weak blood.” Next is “Qi deficiency” which has symptoms of chronic fatigue, lack of mental focus, low sex-drive, and so on. Qi deficiency will immunity, vital functions, digestion and will lead to poor blood circulation, as – in Chinese Medicine – we say “the qi moves the blood.” This should be obvious, from a Western perspective as well, that blood is moved by energy. What else would move blood?
Next, more specifically, we have Yin and Yang deficiencies. Yin deficiency is characterized by insufficient production of essential hormones and enzymes, poor digestion and poor ability of the body to cleanse impurities. This results in various symptoms of “over-heating” such as being thirsty often, being unable to tolerate the heat, having dry skin or disorders symptomatic of such. Yang deficiency, on the other hand, weakens the body’s protective qi, lowers testosterone and other “male” hormones, and harms the adrenal glands. The most common cause of this is excessive ejaculation; a term which is relative to everyone. What is “excessive” will depend on your age, your activity level and whether or not you are engaged in Nei Kung, condensing qi to the Dan Tien. In general, ejaculation should be kept to a minimum with Nei Kung practitioners. Symptoms of Shen Kui, or deficient Kidneys, will result in being unable to tolerate the cold, cold extremities – hands and especially feet – as well as loss of power in the penis.
